Shanghai Trade Efficiency Association (STEA) was set up in Shanghai on 1
September 1994 with the agreement by UNCTAD and the approval by the Chinese
government. It consisted of foreign trade companies and foreign trade related
government organs. It's a non-profit organization and member of World Trade
Point Federation (WTPF). Under the guidance of World Trade Point Federation and
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, it carries out its work
under the leadership of Shanghai Foreign Trade and Economic Commission, it
studies the rules of internal and external trades, exchanges experiences with
counterpart organizations and guides Shanghai Trade Point in its work.
The establishment of STEA promotes the world trade efficiency in a positive
manner. According to the targets set by STEA, it promotes foreign trade and
contributes to informatization and economic reform. STEA will continue to stick
to the principles of United Nations Trade Efficiency Initiatives. It will try to
explore information resources and computing technologies and enhance trade
services, with the aim to consolidating services and expanding markets. With
China's accession into WTO, STEA will keep perfecting itself to meet the
challenges and promote international trade.
